Our Team

Samanthika Devalaraju is the daughter of Dr, Lakshmi & Murthy Devalaraju and currently a senior in JP Stevens High School, Edison, NJ. She showed her interest in charitable work, since the age of 13 years by volunteering at Mother Theresa Orphanage in Tirupati, INDIA. She is the Founder and the President of the organization. She was inspired to start this non-profit organization under Sankar Foundation Eye Hospital after volunteering at this charity organization for three consecutive years. She conceived theidea of Operation 20-20 and, now she took help of her parents to get started on this idea. She has interest in the medical professionand wishes to serve the poor.

Samanthika has volunteered at Sankar Foundation for the last three years. In her own words “Every year I come here, I get excited to see new things and now I feel like I know the hospital inside out. This year, I have started a non-profit organization underSankar foundation called Operation20-20 to show my commitment towards the hospital. In 2013, I donated $500 through the money I received on my birthday and I felt that this donation wasn’t enough to help the hospital that does so much for the poor. I plan to raise funds through my school, Hindu temples, and the various organizations in New Jersey byasking them for donations. I am also trained in Carnatic Vocal music for the last 11 years and I have a concert coming up on September 20thand will raise some money during this event.”

She is currently participating in many activities that are check points on her dream path to become a doctor. Apart from these activities, for the last eleven years, Samanthika has been practicing South Indian Carnic Vocal Classical music. She participated in many competitions throughout USA and won many awards.

Mani Mala K

Mrs. Mani Mala K is one of the Managing Trustees of Sankar Foundation in addition to being the CEO of Srivathsasa Charitable Trust and one of the directors of Visio 2020 (the right to sight, INDIA). At present, she is also working as the Director of Finance of NavayugaInfotech (p) ltd, Hyderabad, INDIA.

Mrs. K. Mani Mala is a postgraduate holding an MBA, started career as a founder faculty of one of the first management colleges in Visakhapatnam, viz. Indian Institute of Advanced Management under the Directorship of Dr. KK Das – the doyen of management education in India, and a Harvard Professor, and was personally trained by him. She served the Institute for7 years,during which period the institute obtained its accreditation to AICTE and also established itself as a premier Institute.

Her passion for the society, made her build and develop a Public Charitable Trust, Sankar Foundation, where she is the Managing Trustee of the Foundation. This foundation workson eliminating avoidable blindness and also works on developing speaking skills in deaf children in the three districts and in recognition of her contribution to eye care, currently she holds the position in the Board of Vision 2020, a National Forum established by the INGOs and the eye care institutions in India, representing the partners of Southern India and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The Trust has performed more than 15 million eye surgeries to the poor free of cost and screened more than 25 million school children in the under privileged group. Also, 50 children that are deaf are being trained using speech therapy to listen and speak normally. In recognition of the service, British High Commission has identified out of 2000 hospitals in 6 countries and identified this Foundation for the visit of Sir John Major and the whole episode is transmitted in BBC World.
